Launching of “NexTram” – the FIRST land transport real time passengers information system in Hong Kong


(26 April 2012- Hong Kong) Hong Kong Tramways, Limited announces today the launch of the “NexTram”. “NexTram” is a complete set of real time passenger information launched by HKT to enhance its services to the passengers.

“NexTram” is a system that includes the following passenger information:

By scanning the QR code installed in each tram station, passengers could know the arrival time and destination of the next three trams approaching their current stop. The system facilitates passengers for easier journey planning and passengers can be informed if there are delays caused by incidents.

“NexTram” is part of the function of HKT’s Operation Control Centre (OCC). The positioning system of the OCC serves to locate all tramways accurately on HKT network with the first ground level Real Time Positioning System in Hong Kong. It enables HKT to enhance tramcar regulation and adaptation of service to better match external condition and passenger demand.

“NexTram” provides traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese and English interface. Starting from tomorrow, QR codes will be installed at all tram stations.
