Millennium New Tram · New Look · New Feeling
HONG KONG, October 24, 2000 Hong Kong Tramways Limited announces the launch of Millennium New Tram at its Millennium New Tram Launch Ceremony.
Honorable officiating guests at this Ceremony include: -

Mr. Roger, Lai Sze-Hoi, Deputy Director/Regulatory Services, Electrical & Mechanical Services Department;

Hongkong Tramways came into service in 1904, providing transportation on Hong Kong Island. Now with the launch of its Millennium New Tram, the Company has reached a new milestone in its illustrious history. Millennium New Tram is expected to draw a great deal of attention from the general public, as stated in its slogan "Millennium New Tram · New Look · New Feel". According to Mr. T. K. Wong, General Manager of Hongkong Tramways Limited, "Judging from both its design and performance, it is true to say that this new tramcar stands out as being unique". Major characteristics of Millennium New Tram are (please refer to appendix for details): -

- Millennium New Tram has a sophisticated streamlined design, conforming to present trends in contemporary design.

- Millennium New Tram provides passengers a spacious and comfortable compartment, including interior seat design and arrangement, staircase design and etc.
To further solicit opinions from the public, Mr. T. K. Wong, General Manager of Hongkong Tramways, invites passengers to enjoy free rides on Millennium New Tram between October 25 and 27. Interviews will be conducted on the new tram.
Mr. T. K. Wong also emphasizes the Company's dedication to service, by saying "We will continue to strive for improvements. Currently, we are planning to install air-conditioning system on trams and join Octopus service. At the same time, we will actively take part and support various traffic development projects, such as the plan of Des Voeus Road Pedestrianisation, proposed by Hong Kong Institute of Planners, aiming for a better and lovely environment. It is still necessary, for the Government to initiate those policies, and actively support them, however."
